Один из крупнейших универсальных магазинов [department store] Нью-Йорка, основан в 1872 Дж. и Л. Блуминдейлами [Bloomingdale, Joseph and Lyman]. Первоначально славился отделом товаров по сниженным ценам [bargain basement]. К началу 1960-х годов завоевал сердца миллионов покупателей и на два с половиной десятилетия стал законодателем мод и символом элегантности и роскоши. В конце 1980-х чудом избежал банкротства, сменил владельцев. И хотя в настоящее время былой славы так и не вернул, по-прежнему остается одним из популярнейших магазинов города, с прекрасным посудо-хозяйственным и мебельным отделами, лучшим в городе деликатесным отделом (целый прилавок отведен под всевозможные сорта икры); здесь же расположен фирменный ресторан "Синий поезд" ["Blue Train"] и знаменитое агентство по продаже театральных билетов со скидкой
